FICTION AND BIOGRAPHIES

The quality of writing of fiction for children that can inspire and encourage them in their faith can be as high as that in the general market, but it seems hard to get it into the hands of children.

Scripture Union (who continues to publish the classics by Patricia StJohn as well as new titles) and Dernier Publishing (who publish for 8-16s) offer some excellent books. The biographies from Christian Focus and YWAM US include some inspirational stories that can be incorporated into teaching times to show how people through the ages have been inspired by their faith to use their gifts.

Bible-based stories from Bob Hartman

Bob’s passion is to teach the Bible in a way that helps kids want to read its stories time and time again. Not just because the stories are ‘good for you’ but because they are creative, clever and so enthralling that kids can’t help themselves. Using characters that may have been around, Bob tells Bible stories from their perspective in a fun way.
